Just came back from our PCFAIR 2000 at
PWTC, Kuala Lumpur. Woww.. was it a tiring experience with the huge crowd!
Nevertheless it was a good opportunity to check out the latest products
available & also a good chance to test the Creative Webcam Go! that
I just got.
That's PWTC from the outside, a place
where all our PC Exhiitions are held from time to time. Looks like a peaceful
and quiet day... until I got inside!
Once there, there were
tons of people, all looking for a bargain & to check out the latest
products. Upon entering PC FAIR, the Samsung Booth was featured prominently,
with their latest monitors. Their presenters didn't look too bad either!
SAMSUNG BOOTH
At their booth entrance,
we were greeted by their eye-catching presenters with some funky silver
outfits.
Their latest Monitor TV &
Plasma screen also looked great. However prices are still very expensive,
ranging from RM3,XXX for the 15" and around RM10,XXX for the 17"!
BOSTON ACCOUSTICS
Next Boston Acoustics also
had a booth. Looks like Creative Labs and Altec Lancing has another competitor.
Boston Acoustics started off some 11 years ago as a Hi-Fi specialists
and now they are starting to market speakers for PCs as well. Judging
from my limited preview at their soundroom, I'd say they are up to par
with Creative Labs and Altec Lancing. However the prices for their 4-speaker
surround system are no where near budget level, with prices around RM800
- RM1,400.
ROBOTS?
Downstaris, NEC has even
hired a Robot to promote their monitors! It sure looked pretty real until
I later found out that it was actually someone wearing a Robot costume.
Must have really taken lots of practice to imitate the Robocop movements!
CYRIX
Cyrix is also making a comeback
in Malaysia after a long time of silence with their Cyrix III CPUs starting
from 500 PC100 and 533Mhz PC133 CPUs.
OTHER NEW STUFFS - DURON
600 & VOODOO 5500
The good news for those who
are waiting is that the Durons & Voodoo 5500s are here! The Duron
600 is now retailing for RM420 while the Voodoo 5500 is RM1,188. The most
attractive in terms of pricing is the Duron. At RM420, it is around RM100
cheaper than the Celeron 600 & performs even better according to Anandtech's
review. However those who are intending to overclock the Duron, I suggest
you wait for the Asus A7V to arrive as currently it is the only motherboard
said to have the clock multiplier option. Currently our local suppliers
only has the MSI motherboard.
Well, thats about all the
pics I've taken it for this year's PC FAIR 2000! Those who didn't make
it at least now you know what you missed :) Lets hope that the next PC
FAIR will be even better! If all things goes well OP will be there as
well to showcase our range of Overclocking Products and systems :)
