PROJECT: "COOL TnT2" Part I

Ahh...finally I got down to try and cool my boiling TnT2! Now let's get started....

First, some of the stuff you might need:

A Hair Dryer, one Butter Knife or something plastic that can go under the heatsink, The HSF unit that you want to use, the thermal tape or paste that you wanna use to stick it on and some acetone. Now, there's some other stuff you can use if you don't have acetone : nail polish remover, alcohol or vodka will do. :)

Here it is! My Creative Labs Graphics Blaster Riva TnT2 Value!. Together in the pic is one RAM chip and some fins from the factory Heatsink. :)
Here is the knife I used. There's an alternative to this if you're uncomfortable using a knife - that is something plastic that can fit under the heatsink to pop it off.
Here is my mum's new Black & Decker hair dryer that wasn't even unpacked! This one's quite powerful too; 1500W!!! with the standard 2 speed fan setting.
OK, time to get started on some real work here...this is what my TnT2 looked like before I plucked out the factory heatsink. Now on goes the hair dryer *whirrrr........*
*....whirrrr...*click* I stopped the hair dryer and tried to rip off the heatsink from my TnT2. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! It DIDN'T COME OFF! Well maybe it's because it was my first 'heat-up' and it wasn't all that hot. I placed that butter knife carefully under the heatsink. It was placed over some chips, so it would work something like a car jack. *click...whirrrr....*
*....whirrrr...*click* I stopped the hair dryer again and tried to rip off the heatsink again. ARGH!!! It wouldn't come off!!  grrrr.... *click...whirrrr....*
*...whirrrrr...*click* I stopped the hair dryer again...and tried to rip it off..again... I was beginning to get a little fed up with this and worried about my graphic card (it was hot!!!) I pulled out that detachable spout thingy at the end of the hair dryer and placed it under the heatsink. I slowly lifted it up and *CrAcK!! clink..* "uuuuh-oh...what did I break this time..." I looked down...THE HEATSINK CAME OFF!!! WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Now, I don't have any picture of the chip and the heatsink with the glue still on it...I forgot...But I was lucky this time...98% of the glue was on the heatsink and there was only a thin layer and some lumps left on the chip!!
There...the cheap 40mm factory heatsink by Creative Labs...wonder where I can stick this....
Here it is! The RIVA TnT2 M64 Chip!!! Once I busted off the factory heatsink, I tried peeling off the remains of the the glue but that didn't work so, I grabbed a bottle of my mum's Nail Polish Remover and rubbed some on. Within 5 minutes, I had this clean chip!
Here is the HSF unit I'm gonna use!! This is a HUGE 50mm x 50mm x 35mm(l x w x h) CPU Cooler! This thing stopped me from using 2 PCI SLOTS!!!  I know this was going a little overboard, but that was all I had :)
This is what my graphic card looked like when it was done. I used my own "Frag Tape" to stick the HSF on. I then placed the card on a flat surface (my Webster's dictionary), and placed another heavy object on it (My Chambers dictionary). hehehe.. The Frag Tape I'm talking about here is not the one you guys think it is...It's just a roll of Double-Sided Tape! I found this tape to be quite useful as an alternative to buying Thermal Paste or the actual Frag Tape. Now I'm off to do some testing, I'll come back with Part II when I'm done.

A special thanks to Danny Lim from Overclockers Paradise, Malaysia for giving me the motivation to actually get this done, My Mum for letting me use her Nail Polish Remover, Hair Dryer and Butter Knife, My sister Nicole for taking her time to take the pictures and to hold up the florescent lamp and to the people at Heatsink-Guide.com for their tips. All pictures were taken by my PROLINK Web Cam.
