PIII Cover Removal

By Jim Phillips

In order to install a PIII with the P3125S(or other) you will need to remove its cover. The PIII has 4 locking pins which must be removed preferably unbroken. If your PIII fails and you want warranty service from Intel or reseller you will need to save the pins and the cover so you can reinstall them.

Its really quite simple...

1) Find a screw that just fits the hole, a typical case screw is ideal. The screw should fit fairly snug in the hole and protrude a bit.
2) With the screw in the hole press down with the screw head flat on a hard surface. Without much effort the retaining pin should pop out. Depending how snug the screw was you may need a screwdriver to remove it from the hole.
3) Repeat for other 3 holes and off comes the cover.
4) You will need the cover for mounting the P3125S and remember to save the retaining pins and any other hardware that came off. Some OEMs use these pins to retain a heatsink and special bracket.
